Outfit of the day

My friend Emma from http://pleasureoverbusiness.blogspot.co.uk/ managed to take a quick snap of my street style for her blog today, so here's my outfit :)

My jumper is actually men's and was a vintage find. My blouse, which only the collar is peeping out is also vintage. The necklace is Topshop, the bag is a Mulberry look a like I found in Portobello market, and the leggings were a great find in Forever 21 when I went to New York :D and on my feet, i wear a pair of classic converse.

I really want a backpack

Backpacks are a huge trend for Spring/Summer, and for a while now, I have really wanted to buy a nice big slouchy backpack that would be great to take to uni to carry all of my notebooks and things. On my search so far, the backpacks have either been too expensive or not big enough! Here are some of the favourites I've found, and hopefully I will end up actually getting one of them. I think it would be a worthwhile purchase as backpacks can be handy for many occassions. I can imagine sporting one of these beauties at Bestival this summer. I am so excited!

Image 1 of ASOS Leather & Print Backpack

This is one of my absolute favourites from Asos! It is pure leather and has an amazing sketch print on it. It's also the size I would want, but unfortunately it's priced at the not so lovely £70, which i don't think my student budget can quite stretch too :(

I think this next backpack is absolutely beautiful! The blue tones and aztec print make this bag really stand out from the crowd. However, it is priced at the pretty hefty £58 from Urban Outfitters. God, I want this an insane amount haha.
Right so this one is slightly more affordable at £34 from trusty Topshop. It's got the slouchy style I like and pastel green is totally on trend for spring/summer!

I also just had a quick gander on ebay and found they are selling a couple of different navajo slouchy backpacks, like the ones they sell in Urban Outfitters, but for a hell of alot cheaper!

I like this one. It's vintage 1990's (so hot right now haha) and the tribal navajo print will make a statement of any outfit. Also, it's nice and big to fit all of uni stuff!

If you find any nice backpack finds, let me know! :) xxx

Outfit of the day

This is one of the outfit's i would typically wear on a night out. The Disco shorts are one of my absolute favourite pieces of clothing! I was lucky enough to get them discounted as I went to a lock in sale at American Apparel one night. The sleeveless shirt is also from American Apparel, and I think the high neck line of the shirt is good to pair with the shorts as they are so short haha. I have also framed the collar with a vintage style locket that my gran gave me. On my feet, I am wearing my trusty creepers which i have previously said were a great bargain on ebay :)

Disco shorts- American Apparel, £45

Shirt- American Apparel, £38

Shoes- Ebay,around £20

The Kooples collaboration

So as i flicked through my issue of ID, i came across the new ad campaign for the brand 'The Kooples'. They have chosen the unlikely face of Pete Doherty to design both a men's and women's range for the brand. Pete who is infamous for his wild lifestyle, fuelled by heavy drugs and drink is not who you would typically think to be picked for such a sleek campaign. However his effortless rock n roll style really is suiting to the brand's quirky cool look. I personally think he looks awesome in these new promotional shots. The collection epitomises his very British, very vintage, laid back, rock n roll inspired look perfectly.

I had a look through the womenswear collection, which weirdly is modelled by Irina Lazareanu, Doherty's on and off-again lover. Here are some of my favourite pieces.

I absolutely love this look! It looks so effortlessly cool with the floaty texture of the skirt and the casual t-shirt tucked in, teamed with one of Pete's signature hats. The different textures of the skirt make it really stand out for me. It's sexy without being obviously provocative. The skirt is priced at £185 so i went on search for cheaper alternatives.

Like this one at £45 from Asos.com

And this slightly shorter more floaty number from American Apparel, priced at £40. So tempted to buy this! But ahhhh need to save money for summer haha.

A young and fresh take on British country wear.

I think the slouchy style of this blazer really makes it. It gives off that instant laid back look that Pete pulls off so well.It would be great for a casual look but i reckon it could look epic over a party dress for night time, offering a clash of the masculine and the feminine. However unfortunately, this blazer is priced at a whopping £355, so i thought I'd look for a cheaper alternative. I found this similar one at Topshop for just £40! I don't think it quite has the slouchy look I like though, so would buy it in a size or two up to create that 'boyfriend' style fit.

Outfit of the day

So, here's my outfit of the day. I got Cara, one of my best mates from home to take the photos as she is a talented photography student. Check out her blog here.

My dress is from an amazing vintage shop in Nottingham called 'Cow'. They now sell online so definately check them out at  http://wearecow.com/.

My necklace was given to me by my gran.God knows where she got it!

The bracelet was £10 from River Island, and the rings are my mum's. I wish to steal them haha

And, finally the creepers were a bargain find on ebay. Got them for about 20 quid :D

Is fashion finally broadening it's mind?

With stick thin, 6 ft tall, boyish figured models being the norm in the fashion industry, it's good to be finally seeing some diversity! The industry seems to be embracing the weird and wonderful with open arms, with designers wanting a unique model for their shows.

Rick Genest, aka Zombie Boy is one of the more peculiar to grace the catwalk. He is a thirty two year old man entirely covered by tattoos that resemble a rotting corpse. He rose to fame when Lady Gaga's fashion director Nicola Formichetti discovered him. Since then he has featured in the new Mugler Autumn/Winter mens collection, even headlining the collection on their website. Then with Gaga's backing, actually walked the catwalk for the menswear collection, and alongside Gaga herself for the womenswear collection.Since then he has appeared in numerous big title fashion magazines

He was even featured in Gaga's video for 'Born this way'.

Another anomaly to join the modelling world is the transexual Brazilian model Lea T. She was discovered by Givenchy's senior designer and became the face of Givenchy in late 2010. She has since modelled for many other designers and has been featured in Vogue Paris amongst many other titles, and was even the cover star of Love magazine alongside Kate Moss.

And again, gender truly isn't an in issue in the case of Serbian Australian model Andrej Pejic, as he models both male and female clothing due to his strong androgenous look. In Paris fashion week 2011, he walked both the men's and women's shows for Jean-Paul Gaultier. He also was weirdly voted no. 98 in FHM magazine's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2011!

Can't believe how womanly they have been able to make him look here.

And now last but not least of the new faces, of maybe a less predujiced industry, is Charlotte Free with her amazing pink hair. I think i am in love with this girl! I think she deserves some of the credit for the beautiful array of bright barnet's out there at the moment (I personally went for a turquoise dip dye..it didn't go too great haha). The nineteen yeard old American has earnt incredible success in such a short period. She caught the eye of Vivienne Westwood and has been unstoppable ever since. I first noticed her on the cover of Wonderland, and it's crazy how much i wanted to buy the magazine just because of her striking image on the front.

Modelling for Westwood

She's even the new face of Forever 21

Brooklyn born street artist Judith Supine, who apparently only learnt to talk by the age of seventeen (Interesting...) is hitting the fashion world by storm. Urban obession

Right, so recently i've been taking alot more notice of street art and urban style. I think this is partly due to my love for hip hop and its natural associations with it. I've started following alot of street/urban style blogs on tumblr. I'd check out http://diariodasartes.tumblr.com/ and http://isiria.tumblr.com/ for some awesome street art.

Here's some of the stuff that has caught my eye.
